Guidelines Effective From 01/09/2009
Strap System - The Strap System rack has been designed for transporting Frames,
Windows & Doors etc. This System is not designed to carry plate glass.
Securing Method:
- Place your product on the rubber load blocks on the bottom shelf / step.
- Use the supplied Ratchet Straps to securely clamp your products to the rubber buffer on the crossmembers.
- Ensure ratchet is tight and there is no movement.
- It is your responsibility to ensure your load is safe before traveling on the highway.
Wheel Removal:
- Remove all products from the Strap System.
- Lift the vehicle chassis using the jacking point with appropriate tool. As indicated in your vehicle’s handbook.
- The wheel will be lowered sufficient distance to allow removal underneath the shelf / step of the rack.
Pole System - The Pole System rack has been designed for transporting Glass, Frames, Windows & Doors etc...
Securing Method:
- Place your product on the rubber load blocks on the bottom shelf / step.
- Use the supplied Spring Loaded Poles to securely clamp your products to the rubber buffer on the cross members.
- Engage the spring spike in one of the locating holes at the top of the rack.
- Then slot in the bottom flat stop in the appropriate section on the bottom shelf / step.
- Use the sliding rubber wedges to securely grip your product between the rubber buffer on the rack and the pole.
- Ensure there is no movement of your product or the poles.
- It is your responsibility to ensure your load is safe before travelling on the highway.
Wheel Removal:
- Remove all products from the Pole System.
- Use an 8mm socket & allen key to remove the section of the step covering the wheel.
- Lift the vehicle chassis using the jacking point with appropriate tool. As indicated in your vehicle’s handbook.
- The wheel will be lowered sufficient distance to allow removal underneath the cross members of the rack.
Garage Doors
- It is possible to transport garage doors on Top Fleet racking systems. Special care and attention is required to secure the door to the rack. Several ratchet straps and/or webbing will be required. Poles are not suitable. This is due to the doors are very light and can act as a sail and break free from the rack. It is your responsibility to ensure your load is safe before travelling on the highway.
Roller Above Ladder
- Please take extra care when climbing on to the roof of the vehicle if fitted with a roller above the ladder. Serious injury may result if you hold on to or tread on the roller.
Safe Working Load (SWL)
- The SWL is clearly stated on the nameplate of the external rack. The SWL is based on the weight being evenly distributed along the length of the rack. You must ensure your rack; straps & poles are checked every time they are to be used. A damaged system is extremely dangerous and has a ZERO SWL
Maintenance
- All moving parts such as hinges, rollers, etc require regular lubrication with suitable products to maintain trouble free usage. The racking is manufactured from corrosion resistant materials and therefore requires regular cleaning to prevent corrosion.
